Assemblage was founded in 1985. The members meet monthly at each other’s studios to share practical and technical aspects of the process of making art, and to complement the solitary nature of the artist’s studio. Members of Assemblage are dedicated to a mutual respect for one another. They arrange regular exhibitions at various venues. Their diverse experiences are represented by such media as painting, mixed media, ceramic sculpture, printmaking, collage, drawing and sculptural fiber. National and international galleries and museums collect, award, commission, and offer fellowships and residencies to Assemblage members.

The Assemblage artists include Rosalind Bloom, Zola Bryen, Wanda Chudzinski, Leslie Eadeh, Lauren Litwa Holden, Sheila Letven, Helen Mirkil, Lesley Mitchell, Elaine Nettis, Brigitte Rutenberg, Charlotte Schatz, Eleanor Schimmel, Marion Spirn, Pamela Taggart and Carol Wisker.

The Atlas Imagined, a collaborative project
April 3
June 6, 2015
Athenaeum of Philadelphia, 219 So 6th Street, Philadelphia PA

Dream Land, a linocut on hand colored paper in a variable edition of 45, by Lesley Mitchell, is part of The Atlas Imagined.

39 Members of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers each made an edition of maps of a place, real or imagined.

Meeting in September 2014, participating members exchanged maps, then created a way to keep them together as a collection. The resulting books or boxes are as individual and imaginative as the images themselves.

The Delaware Valley Chapter – one of 10 regional chapters of the Guild of Book Workers – is located in the the tri-state area with activities centered in Philadelphia. The GBW promotes interest in and awareness of the tradition of the book and paper arts. Its diverse membership includes book artists, book conservators, fine binders, calligraphers, librarians, paper marblers, teachers, photographers, printmakers, and graphic designers.

Book Launch Party for Extraordinary Gifts
March 8
March 8, 2014
Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club, 14 Kelly Drive, Philadelphia PA

Extraordinary Gifts is a book and an exhibition of work that celebrates women of the Delaware Valley who have changed the world. A group of contemporary visual and literary artists were asked to create work inspired by these women. Extraordinary Gifts is a project of Philadelphia Stories, a regional literary magazine.

I've made a painting about Marian Anderson, who changed the world in so many ways that a single painting barely scratches the surface.

All the images and compositions are being published now in book form and next fall in an exhibition at the Cheltenham Art Center

The book launch party for Extraordinary Gifts will take place Saturday, March 8, from 3 to 6 pm

Imagination has not gone wanting here.”
